The Water Crisis

Arizona is facing a water crisis unlike any in our state's history

Arizona will take a 30% cut to its overall water allocation from the Colorado River, and the major Phoenix metro cities — Phoenix, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Scottsdale, Tempe, and Glendale — will be announcing Stage 2 Drought conditions, which impose significant water-use restrictions on businesses and residents.

More severe stages loom. As of August 2026, Lake Mead sits at approximately 1,040 feet — only 145 feet above its dead pool threshold of 895 feet. Dead pool is the critical level below which water can no longer flow downstream through Hoover Dam by gravity, meaning water deliveries to Arizona, California, Nevada, and Mexico would cease entirely. Federal forecasters expect Lake Mead to continue setting record lows through 2026 and into 2027, with worst-case projections near 1,015 feet by summer 2027. If we reach dead pool, the economic and social consequences for our state would be catastrophic.

Why We Started Cactus Water Environmental

We're all Arizona natives with nearly 20 years of combined experience in conservation and sustainability implementation — work that has given us a front-row seat to this crisis. We've watched our state pour resources into data centers while ignoring residential water needs. We've seen families waste thousands annually without knowing it. And we've realized that most homeowners have no way to understand their water use, let alone afford a professional assessment.

That's unacceptable. So we created Cactus Water Environmental to level the playing field.

Our Mission

We conduct comprehensive water-use assessments of your home — from irrigation and landscaping to fixtures and pools. We identify your waste, calculate your potential savings, and, most importantly, connect you with local, state, and federal grants and rebate programs that fund efficiency upgrades for free.

We know the funding landscape inside and out. We know which programs cover what, and we make sure you get access to every dollar available to you, because no Arizona family should have to choose between water conservation and financial hardship.
